How much is this going to cost?
Each project has its own scope, so without knowing the parameters, I can't be precise with pricing. But here are some guidelines.
Scanning and digitizing photographs and documents
Most projects begin with simple scanning and digitizing of photographs and documents. For some people, that's all they want, to insure that the family photographs get evenly shared among the children and grandchildren, or for divorcing couples. The first 100 scans cost $1.50 apiece. All subsequent scans are $1 apiece. This price includes 5 copies of each scan, on separate CDs or DVDs. Subsequent copies of the DVD/CD disks are $5 apiece.
Documentary Movies and Searchable Databases
Putting together a documentary movie is more complex and time-consuming. It requires recording your memories, editing the sound to match the description to the correct photograph and cleaning up any stray noise, editing the photographs into a storyboard to create a narrative, creating the basic movie, formatting the movie for a DVD or BlueRay, and creating the final disk. Consequently, a two-hour movie will cost about $3,000, in addition to the basic scanning costs. Longer or additional movies are not proportionally more expensive. A searchable database requires data entry, and thus about a dollar per image.
Quilts, pillows, shadowboxes, display cases and more
Turning grandfather’s workshirts into a keepsake quilt will cost around $750, depending on size. Turning grandmother’s houserobe into a comfy pillow will run around $100. Because shadowboxes and display cases can be tiny or huge, the price depends on the raw materials and time involved. Give a call so we can discuss your project and quote you a price.
